04-10-2023 King Willem-Alexander has addressed a letter to the people of Curacao on the occasion of the rehabilitation of Tula, the leader of one of the largest uprisings against the slavery system in the Caribbean at palace Huis ten Bosch in The Hague.
The letter was presented on Tuesday evening, October 3, in Parke Lucha pa Libertat in Willemstad, Curacao by the Governor of Curaçao, Mrs. Lucille George – Wout.
State Secretary Van Huffelen of Kingdom Relations and Digitalization was present in Curacao at the formal rehabilitation by the Dutch government.
The rehabilitation took place in the Parke Lucha pa Libertat, where a monument stands at the site of Tula's execution in memory of the slave uprising.
Tula was executed on October 3, 1795.
